Broke’s Promise is a small family owned vineyard and olive grove, located in the tranquil region of Broke Fordwich in Australia’s world renowned Hunter Valley. Our property is nestled between the foothills of the Yengo National park and the banks of the Wollombi Brook with an amazing view of the Brokenback Range and Yellow Rock.
We specialise in handcrafting wines from some of the Hunters most renowned varieties, Semillon, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Shiraz and for something a little different a Northern Italian red variety Barbera. Our grapes are grown close to the river banks on sandy loam and basalt soil and we pay every attention to vineyard quality. The vineyard has 8 acres of vines with Chardonnay being the first variety planted in 1994 and has produced vintages since 1998 with its’ own distinctive regional style. The Barbera was planted in 1999 and produces a medium bodied aromatic style wine which is a perfect accompaniment to pasta and Mediterranean style food. More recently planted are Shiraz, Semillon, and Verdelho which are popular varieties grown successfully in this delightful region.
Our contract winemaker is Andrew Margan from Margan Family Wines. Andrew is an award winning winemaker who has been making wine for Broke’s Promise since 1998.
The 23 acre olive grove planted in November 1996 comprises Frantoio varieties of Corregiola and Paragon from central Italy which produce a delicious fruity oil with a slight peppery finish. The other varieties of Spanish Manzanilla and Greek Kalamata are grown for table olives.
